my Memoir

My life spans from 1928 until the present (2008). Included in this period were the Great Depression, World War II, Cold War era, the Korean War, and many other world events that I didnít participate directly in. More important to this book, however, are the technology events, particularly in electronics. These, I did directly participate in. During my career, there were at least five technology "sea changes" that occurred. You will find these in the book, with my observations about them.

The objectives of the book are:
  • To show some of the things that make a person want to become an engineer, and how you can recognize when they occur.
  • To tell what I think are the attributes of a good engineer.
  • To document the accomplishments of my life.
  • To tell from my perspective about the advances of technology that occurred during my life.
  • To tell some interesting stories.
Learn about the life of a successful engineer and how engineering permeated not only his career, but his entire life; leading to many projects in electronics, woodworking, photography, boating, web site design, writing, and more. Finally, he was able to retire to a house of his own design on a coastal mountaintop in beautiful Sonoma County, California, where he continues his engineering interests.
The rewards of being an engineer are emphasized in the book. If you are thinking about a career in engineering, this book is for you.
